Romance blossomed at Whitchurch-on-Thames
04/07/2009 by Rosemary.
What a different mating this was! We were a little worried travelling with two girls and two cria but we arrived safely at Bozedown. For the first 20 minutes, until we got to Blandford, Sherbert remained standing up and peering out the back of the trailer. I know this due to the drivers grinning and pointing behind and as we stopped twice and she still had not sat down! Eventually she settled and there were no problems. How different it all was! Sherbert was ears pricked and straight in, after she had given Emily a drink. She was mated to Caesar and he was extremely enthusiastic - a lovely looking animal. Crispie was keen to follow and was mated to Dazzler. Dazzler did not want to stop and Crispie was quite content throughout. In fact she then started eyeing up Beck and The Chief! The cria waited outside and were not too worried by it all. Crispie seemed to have forgotten Alfie in her lust so we put her in with them at the end to try and bring her back to earth. That frightened Dazzler off and Crispie slowly stood up looking dreamy! The journey back was accomplished safely and they were excited to get home. The little ones then spent ages charging round the field, flat out gallops and then little pronks, with Yoda and Emily. Carl and I then went for a lay down while Sam fell asleep in front of the television - we were more shattered than the girls! Tonight, as Sam’s treat as he had a good school report, we are having a barbeque in the field so, assuming we don’t set the remainder of the hay alight, we are going to have a relaxing evening (we also have a bottle of wine and it is a very long time since we have had an alcoholic beverage!). Sam took some photos of the mating so, hopefully, I will upload them tomorrow.
Sandra - many thanks for the brilliant email - will reply tomorrow.
