Buckingham pays a call

Poor Amber (the dog) had another of her funny turns last night.  She is fine one minute and then she suddenly goes all stiff legged and starts to shake.  I think it is a sort of cramp - it lasts about 20 minutes and then she is fine, if a little worried looking.  Carl tucked her up on the settee after and she has had no problems today.

This morning was another brilliant Wellground mating.  It was Buckingham today and a stunning lad he is.  What is so extra special is, not just his fleece and conformation, but his temperament.  He enjoyed Rob tickling him under the chin after and he stands so beautifully.  It is always a pleasure to talk to Rob, Lesley did not come this time - they have so much going on, after 10 minutes in Rob’s company you feel so excited about all things alpaca.  Buckingham was here for Flamenco and she took to him straight away.  He got going immediately and clearly had a wonderful time!  He had started by doing a spit off with Carolyn and that went really well so things look very positive there.  Emily, Carolyn’s cria, was very interested in what was going on.  She continues to grow at a furious pace and reminds us of the big Dough Boy thing at the end of Ghost Busters!  Emily will be another one on the list for Wellground next year.

As soon as Rob had driven off (and that specially adapted van he has for transporting the studs is brilliant) Prudence started rolling around and appeared to be having contractions.  I sat through a small shower watching and then it all petered out!  The small showers have now become more persistent and so the waste management has had to draw to a hasty close today.  Prue has had a half hourly check all day as she is now 361 days, I can’t believe she has not had it already.  Lots of people seem to be saying births are late this year but then again some, like Flamenco, are coming very early.  We have decided to hold off shearing Emily at the moment.  If we have a lot more hot weather we will reconsider.

Still raining!
